5 Reasons Why Changzhou's Yancheng Scenic Area is a Must-See

5 Reasons Why Changzhou's Yancheng Scenic Area is a Must-See

Located in the south of Changzhou, China lies Yanchang Scenic Area, an ancient town that is neatly tucked away from the rest of the city. If you decide to visit this area, you will find archaeological ruins from the Spring and Autumn period, a period in history from approximately 771 to 476 BC. A scenic area that encompasses both ancient history and entertainment, this is one destination that you'll want to put on your bucket list.

1. YANCHENG CULTURAL STREET

Yancheng's Cultural Street is probably the best part of the scenic area. Filled with Chinese-style pagodas and houses along the glossy river, you will experience a part of China that has maintained its tradition over the years and has managed to dodge modernization. There are also cute little spas and a Seasons Boutique Hotel if you wish to stay in this gorgeous area.

2. YANCHENG FOOD STREET

One of the first things I learned when I came to China is to always choose the restaurants that are filled with people, that way you know the food is good quality. I

peeked into the different restaurants on food street and chose to eat at the one with the most customers. Being a foodie, I of course ordered too much food; but this always works out in the end since I have delicious leftovers for dinner. And boy were these dishes delicious! Here are pictures of the two dishes I ordered:

3. YANCHENG CHUNQIU THEME PARK

Yancheng Amusement Land is built to the northeast of Yancheng Ruins and reproduces the political, military, economic and cultural situations in Spring and

Autumn Period. Besides this, it is a fun-packed amusement park filled with out-of-the-box roller coasters, a water park and a lengthy haunted house that

will require you to wear rain boots (don't worry these are provided).

COST: 190¥ for day ticket, 100¥ for night ticket

OPEN: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

4. YANCHENG RUINS

The Yancheng Ruins are probably one of my favorite parts of the scenic area. There are many giant antique man-made attractions and bronze statues, such as “Mr. Nan Guo” and “White Horse and Non-Ma” It's an educational experience with signs

everywhere telling the history behind the ruins in English, German and Chinese.COST: 20¥ for adults, 10¥ for children

OPEN: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

5. WUJIN MUSEUM

Located smack-dab in the middle of Yancheng's Scenic Area is Wujin Museum. I'll admit, this wasn't my favorite museum; however, it does do a good job of

showcasing Yancheng's history and culture. The museum is dimly lit throughout and features a nice exposition of pottery spanning some 5000 years ago. The best part of this museum is that it is free, so go check it out!

COST: FREE

OPEN: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
