A Guide to Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular: A Minnesota Zoo Event

BACKGROUND

From Sept 28 to November 2, the Minnesota Zoo will be hosting its 6th annual Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular. The outdoor glowing trail features thousands of artistically carved pumpkins that light up the night. The event features an outdoor trail with approximately 5,000 hand-carved pumpkins with not-so-spooky smiles, whimsical grins, and realistic scenes of the wild world. The event is family-friendly and is dotted with activities throughout including a mini maze, dance party and karaoke night.

COST: Tickets range from $18-26 for adults and $14-22 for children/65+ adults. Parking is included.


WHAT TO EAT & DRINK

Throughout the entire trail there are several opportunities to stop and grab a bite to eat or something to drink at one of the food stands or trucks. The popular food truck the Jack-o-Lantern Cantina features fan favorites including walking tacos, empanadas, flautas, chips and guac and more.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Muerte de Chocolate - this drink comes with a Minnesota Zoo souvenir cup and is filled with Mexican hot chocolate (cocoa with cinnamon and cayenne), a skewer of 3 churro bites, whipped cream and topped with 2 marshmallow peeps.


WHAT TO SEE

The entire experience is divided into different sections featuring various jack-o-lantern themes bringing everyone’s dreams to life. There was a section with travel-themed pumpkins, superhero pumpkins, Disney character pumpkins, themes of famous book titles, movies and TV shows. There was quite literally a pumpkin carved for everything!

WHAT TO DO

Along the path are activities that are family-friendly for those who have kiddos including:

• Stores and stands that sell Halloween-themed toys and souvenirs including plushies, light up wands, necklaces and more
