5 Spooky Spots to Visit this Halloween Season in Minnesota

5 Spooky Spots to Visit this Halloween Season in Minnesota

As Halloween season approaches, you may be wondering where to go and what to do since the times of trick-or-treating are in the past (unless you have a child.) Aside from attending ValleyScare, Zombie Pub Crawls and watching the newest horror movie in theaters, it can be a challenge finding new activities to do. The good news is Minnesota is filled with eerie hidden gems.

Since I am a huge fan of Halloween and all things spooky, I set out this year to find new places and activities to try. Here are the five that made the list of recommendations:

1. Visit Scream Town

Located in a dead end area of Chaska, Scream Town offers guests a mock-up of a town in a horror movie with its seven haunted attractions. The town is filled with everything to satisfy your spooky cravings from a zombie apocalypse to a psychedelic circus. There is also a tarot reading house and apothecary shop to take pictures in. Following the haunted attractions are a slew of food trucks and a small brewery located in a corner. At the end of your experience is a Scream Shop to buy souvenirs, t-shirts and even liquid potions in a bottle to keep for memories.

My recommendation is to use the port-a-potties before entering Scream Town since you will not be able to use one throughout the experience until you reach the end.

PRICE: Varies depending on if you buy tickets online or in-person and whether it is VIP or regular. Click here for a full list of prices.

2. Ride on the Abandoned Hayride

Located directly next door to Scream Town is its sister attraction the Abandoned Hayride. The experience takes you through a series of gruesome events that are not for the faint of heart including the witnessing of a victim being shoved through a meat grinder. After the series of stops you (and whoever you decided to attend with) will be guided to a forest in pitch black where you are left to find your way out (hence the name “abandoned forest.”) Throughout your hunt for the way out of the forest, there will be workers dressed up as ghosts and other monsters who will jump out in the dark to scare you and even chase you.

3. Visit a Cemetery at Night

As far as spooky goes, this is probably as scary as it gets. Believe it or not there are cemeteries in Minnesota that have been known for ghost sightings and mysteries sounds. Here is a list of cemeteries in Minnesota that are said to be haunted:

  • Holy Name Cemetery - Wayzata, MN

  • Lakview Cemetery - Buhl, MN

  • Green Lawn Cemetery - St. Peter, MN

  • Oakland Cemetery - St. Paul, MN

4. Attend a Haunted Walking Tour

This is still currently on my bucket list but this Halloween season there are a ton of spooky/horror-themed walking tours across Minnesota. These walking tours will give you the gruesome background history into different cities and attractions that you may have walked past previously without knowing the hidden details.

Here are just a few that I recommend and hope to attend myself:

5. Buy a ticket to Phantom’s Feast

Although on the pricier side, the Phantom’s Feast is a highly popular event during the Halloween season that makes for a great spooky date night idea. Located on the grounds of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival is a series of ghost stories that is directed by Jim Cunningham. Rumor has it that at past phantom feasts a creepy séance took place in which the host communicated to the dead. The ticket to the event includes a four-course meal, a Phantom’s souvenir mug that you get to take home, and a ghost hunt following the show.
